MY INTRO

Hello, welcome to my blog!

I've been working on a individual project that  which took much longer than I thought it would. I wanted to do some kind of illustration sculpture that had something related to Cambodia. There's this episode I've watched in this television show "River Monsters" on the Animal Planet and this guy in the show caught a giant cat fish, the Mekong giant catfish. It's one of the largest fish in the world and a critically endangered species that has suffered from overfishing, dam building, and habitat destruction.

I think it's amazing how big that fish is and I got excited learning about it. My mother is from Cambodia and she's never seen this kind of fish before. Also, she didn't even believe me at first when I told her it's a catfish. She's used to the ones that are small and black with cat like whiskers called barbels.  I didn't even know that they were called that before.

For my illustration sculpture, I wanted it to be about an otter who went out fishing on his boat and  had suddenly encountered the giant catfish. But first, I did some research if there were any otters in Cambodia and there are. Otters are awesome, and cute!

After looking at many cute other pictures and saving some... I needed to research on Cambodian boats. Also, with the help from my mother I found out that some boats I was looking at were Vietnamese... So I looked at many, many boats until I found what I was looking for.

Ok, here's the sketch that I came up with in order to start this project. It's not the best quality picture because I did a light sketch in pen. The rest of the pictures of the project's progress will be uploaded on the following posts. It may take a while, I didn't realize how long it takes to post on a blog.
